Dead Dragon Fly

Revving engines grumble.
Cars with humans, finger tapping
waiting for the stoplight to change.
Wading cars flood the street.
Noticing a dragonfly,
yellow wide wings fluttter.
Almost if fate had it,
one of the cars hits it!
What seeming so free,
now in the struggle and madness
of survival.
A deeper hurt is felt in my heart,
as the rushing car moves away.
I look down at the black tar,
to see the dragonfly struggle and lay still.
My mind rushes with hatred,
for the human race can be so cruel.
In my mind, I kneel down before the fly,
caressing it's fragile wings,
wishing I could do much more.
I sob to myself and look away,
from the dead insect I considered a friend.
From that moment, the light turned green,
and it was time for me to enter the road of death.
The death of a dragonfly.

  7. Their lives are terribly short anyway, so it is doubly sad to see one die prematurely.

  8. Sad in lives too short, we are all on the road of death..painful to see it shortened more. Good use of metaphor. Well written. Thank you, Gay @beachanny

  9. Dear Gwen
You are good, looking at something that no one does and then treat the subject with so much empathy and feelings that the whole thing becomes alive...
    Loved these lines...
"A deeper hurt is felt in my heart,
as the rushing car moves away."
    Thanks for sharing...
