Our View

Came here by chance,
longing for peace and inspiration.
Cool breeze still whispering essence of winter past.
Trees still bare and ice in place,
I find beauty in this quiet space.
Standing tall like towers, high overhead,
never feeling alone, together we tread.
Peering out, beyond the clouds,
seeking beauty and peace forever.

  1. "Cool breeze still whispering essence of winter past." Like this line a whole lot because it is drawn out relative to all the other lines, thus illustrating the lingering effect of winter through form too. Fine poem

  4. Wow Gwen, first, the photograph is so definitive of your poem, the quiet embrace of a mother and daughter.

    Then your amazing words:

"I find beauty in this quiet space.
Standing tall like towers, high overhead"

Judging from your words I would say you have found peace, inspiration and beauty. Not only that, you have shared it and for that I say 'thank you'.

  5. I do this with my wife and she (and me) are not of stone.
Even in separation, our partnership is whetted and honed
Then our reunions, an embodied dance beyond a sterile glance
Birds dare not alight upon our shoulders with feathers askance
Why make marble gestures toward the living
When life is ours now and worth the giving

  7. Did you write the poem first or take the picture? Great combination of expression.

  8. Thank you so much everybody, your thoughts, replies and questions mean so much to me!

wolfsrosebud: To answer your question, I took the picture first which was located in a lovely cemetery. The peace and love that is found there inspired the picture as well as the poem.
