Years have gone by.
Memories, raw as yesterday.
I cry to remember, I cry to forget.
Hope begins, where hate left off.
People caring so little,
made us smarter, stronger people.
This day brings tears, awakening old fears.
Many were taken and many still are, from disease
of smoke, dust and falling debris.
We fell to our knees on that fateful day,
we grieve, have learned, have remembered.
Horror still fresh on the lips of many.
The death, fear, pain inflicted can not be removed,
but something bigger was gained.
Love, respect and unity, we stand..
Hand in hand.
Lovely tribute, Gwen. Pain, still pain...especially on this day. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeletehave been talking to my students about this...and what changed...because they really dont know a time before it...it is def still vivid in my mind...one of those days i will never forget....love the hope in your closure...
ReplyDeleteGwen...I felt this. I may be on the other side of the invisible border we live by...but my world changed that day...and I've not experienced such fear since...a fantastic write
ReplyDeleteGreat message
ReplyDeleteGwen ~ a super writing & tribute to this day!
ReplyDeleteIn the fear & memory of pain does not have to prevail! Love is what we can hold on to ~ thank God!
This day brings tears, awakening old fears.
ReplyDeleteThat about sums it up. A raw tribute to that day and some of the emotions that will linger long after we are gone.
Although I will never forget that day...I somehow feel stronger this year around and not wanting to immerse myself in the memories. I've learned that there are some very hateful and vengeful people on the planet...I'm glad I know they exist.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a sensitive and hopeful message, Gwen.
grateful to have read your poetic words today. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your kind comments. Yes, people may hurt us but it doesn't have to change the way we live and the way we love.
